Ashley Martin

Piano, Woodwinds, Brass, Vocals & Music Theory

Ashley Martin is a Jackson Memorial High School alumni who continued her studies at Montclair State University where she acquired her Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a concentration in classical trumpet.

During her time at Montclair her dedication was rewarded by being presented with several awards including the Outstanding Student Teacher Award and the Outstanding Undergraduate Music Theory Award. Graduating with Honors and Summa Cum Laude emphasizes her expanding passion for helping others and uniting communities through music.

From the moment she played her first notes she knew music would remain in her life forever. Ashley fulfilled her student-teaching requirement at an elementary school in Montclair, New Jersey, where she introduced the world of music to nine and ten-year-old’s picking up a flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or drumsticks for the very first time. This was a rewarding, affirming, and eye-opening experience as she remembered back to her early days of playing trumpet as a child. Ashley continued to expand her musical repertoire to include all band instruments as well as piano and voice.

Ashley will pursue a Master of Arts in Arts Administration at Columbia University’s Teachers College alongside the Class of 2027 cohort. She is determined to continue her education in the hopes that she will be able to be a strong advocate for the arts within our education system as well as arts organizations worldwide. She has grown committed to maintaining the liveliness of music through existing societal conflicts and aspires to start her own nonprofit organization one day. Between fieldwork, freelancing, and teaching, she has always enjoyed sharing her passions for music with the next generation and looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
