Overview

SIRS was conceptualised during the 2023 RSD Summer Camp in New Orleans as a means for record stores who were not accepted, able or willing to join one of the current coalition of record stores. It is  intended to be an “alternative-culture” of the coalition - hence the term “association” of independent record stores.

Purpose

SIRS is a means for independent record stores to share information, connect with each other for business and social purposes, to be a sounding board for each other, provide advice and assistance for each other, without a formal board, dues or rules - except: “to work together in conjunction with RSD and each stores select and preferred distributors.” Founding stores do have oversight, but do not constitute a board of directors.

There is no formal connection with RSD, Distributors or Manufacturers, nor should there be. The only advantage to SIRS members and the above parties is mutual cooperation and respect to conduct business together for mutual benefit.

Activities (thus far)

●     Occasional group calls to share information, experiences and advice before and following major RSD events

●     Coordinate meetings with distributors and other vendors during RSD Summer Camp sessions

●     Coordinate between stores for any assistance needed; e.g. stock swaps/purchases, equipment purchases, promotional ideas, assistance with online sales portals, etc.
